Q: I run a small business with products that I think can't be sold over the Internet.  Do I really need a website?

A: That's a very good question.  In fact, it's one of the most-asked question of the Internet-age.  Should your business have a Website even if your business is small or you sell products or services that can't be sold online?

The answer to this is:  Yes, your business should have a website.  Period.

And don't think your product can't be sold online.  Nowadays, you can find all sorts of products and services being sold online - from pets to food to cars to ships.  Anything can be sold online!  If you can produce it, someone can figure out a way to sell it online.

The number of online shoppers has now grown to a staggering level.  With millions of people now using the Internet as the source of information for products and services, your business should at least have an Internet presence so that customers, potential employees, business partners, and maybe even investors could easily find out more about your business and the products and services you offer.

But having a Website is not enough.  Your Website should look professional if you want to be taken seriously.  As stated previously, more people now use the Internet to search for information about everything before going to a brick-and-mortar shop to buy.  Your Website might be the first chance you'll get at giving a good impression.  If your Website looks like it was done by some 15-year-old kid, your chance at making a good first impression is lost.

One good thing about the Internet is that it levels the playing field.  Your business might be a one-man enterprise but on the Internet, you can be as big as anyone else as long as you project your business that way.

One company might say that they value their image, products and services so much that they hired a team of professionals to make their Website.  Another company might say that they are so proud to have saved some money by letting the owner's 12-year-old nephew develop their Website.  Remember, what's worse than having no Website at all is to have a badly-done one!

Your Website should speak much about your business.  Value this opportunity to have one.
